Short version: your microphone audio never leaves your device, and we don’t collect personal data.
Microphone
The page asks for the microphone only after you tap Start; nothing is requested when the page loads. Sound is analysed in real time inside your browser with the Web Audio API to calculate a level. Audio is never recorded, stored or uploaded, and no audio leaves your device. Tap Stop (or close the tab) and the microphone is released.
Stored on your device only
Two settings are saved in your browser’s localStorage so they are remembered next time:
dbmeter.cal— your calibration offset in dB (a number from −30 to +30).dbmeter.resp— your response setting (fastorslow).
Session readings (min, average, max and the 60-second history) live only in the open page and are cleared when you press Reset or close it. Clear the saved settings any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
CSV export
Export CSV creates the file in your browser and saves it to your device. It is not sent anywhere.
No accounts, cookies or analytics
There are no accounts or forms, we set no cookies, and the site loads no analytics or advertising scripts.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) to run and protect the service.
If this changes, we will update this page first. Last updated 20 October 2026.
